So Frustrating!

Grrrr!

I finally got rid of my knee pain (yay!), but now I'm having major ankle pain! UGH!

I've taken two rest day this week already, Sunday and Tuesday, with a bike ride on Monday. I just tried running on my treadmill and it still freaking hurt. I even taped it up this time. So I just walked for a little while and now I'm icing. I guess I'll take two days off and work on stretching with more icing? I don't even know.

I just wanted to vent. My Erie Half Marathon is growing closer and I just want to enjoy the experience, pain free.

On a positive note, eating is going pretty well. No sweets (minus a granola bar I had today that had some chocolate on it, not sure if that counts though) and no junk food.

Jamboree

I was perusing Yahoo working when I came upon this article about the Boy Scout Jamboree in West Virginia. This is a massive event they are having in southern West Virginia (where I'm from).
It wasn't the Jamboree that I was interested in really, but the fact that they put a physical limitation on the Scouts that were able to attend. According to the article, scouts who had a BMI higher than 40 were ineligible to attend. Okay, I get that they want to promote healthy choices and being active. Their facility is amazing, with Olympic pools, rafting, rock climbing, etc. However, my problem is, how are these kids going to realize their full potential and how being active can be fun, if they are  being ostracized?
Perhaps these kids need to be given a chance. Just because one is obese does not mean that they couldn't do the physical activities the other kids could do. It probably would be harder, but not impossible. Ugh, I just hate it that such a thing exists as being too fat to go to camp. Poor kids. I hope that some of the ones that were denied have their "ah-ha" moment and start changing their lives. This is probably the objective of the limitation, but it doesn't always work...

I've been working on my goals that I set for myself. I've made healthier choices, though I did have some tea. I've been catching up on my blogs. And I got in a long run Sunday. It was 8 miles, but I only ran probably 7 of those. My knee just hurt so badly. I talked to a girl at my group run today (2.6 miles) and she is using tape for her shin splints and various other pains. I might give it a try. Basically it's using a type of medical tape, shaping it around whatever hurts and this causes the skin to pull away from the muscle so that there's less pain. At least that's what I understood she was saying. I don't know if it will help, but I'm willing to try anything!

My knee coupled with the hot humid air made for a rather miserable run. It also didn't help that I decided to run around 2 o'clock. Yeah, not a smart decision! I guess I know why most people run before the sun really comes up.

My week of training looks like this:

Group run today
Spin tomorrow morning
Spin on Wednesday followed by a run in the evening
Thursday tempo work
Friday rest
Long run Saturday morning.

I have a family thing on Sunday so I have to get my run in on Saturday before I go into work that evening.

Back to watching Bones! I'm going to try and get some tape tomorrow and will update after I try it out a couple of times. I can't stand this 'runner's knee' any longer!

Aftermath

After the half marathon on Saturday (!), I've been feeling rather sluggish and, let's be honest, fat. I was sore for two days and now I'm trying to heal from my bike wreck (yeah I don't know why I'm still in pain either!).

Yesterday I finally went swimming at the gym for 30 minutes. I tried to do pull ups on the side of the pool, but got a huge shock of pain through my wrist. It hasn't been right since the accident either. I'm thinking I pulled a ligament or something.

Today I walked on my treadmill for 31 minutes with a 2 incline. I felt pretty good, but could still feel a little twinge in my right knee. Therefore, I'm sitting here with ice on both of the knees while I type this.

I've mentioned this before, but I eat just about every two hours. This is usually okay with me since I need the energy to workout. However, since I haven't been working out and certainly don't have the intensity in what little workouts that I do, that I'm used to, I feel like my eating has been out of control. I've maintained my little weight gain from a couple of weeks ago without gaining anymore, but it's certainly not the direction I want to be in. I don't know if I'm just bored and therefore eat constantly or maybe I'm not drinking enough water. I don't know, but I'm ready to get back to exercising regularly and to get my eating back on track.

The last two days I've been tracking everything I eat. I've gone over my allotted calories (the amount that I can eat to lose weight, according to Sparkpeople.com). A lot of it is fruit, but I've been dipping back into my sweet tea and just not thinking about what I eat before I put it into my mouth. Again, I'm not eating horrible foods, but just too much of everything. Even healthy foods in overabundance is not a good thing. I hope rest this weekend will get me out of my funk. Perhaps I just need some sunshine! I've already implemented a plan at work to only bring a certain amount of food to eat that way I can't eat too much there. And I'm going to try to drink a lot of water after dinner and no food after 7.

On a happy note. To celebrate my half marathon, I went out with my sister and got a pedicure on Monday! This is only the second time I've ever gotten one and my feet enjoyed it. My calves especially enjoyed the little massage they give.

This stuff was awesome. Just like Icy Hot!

I'm the one in the green sandals.

Alright, so I'm going to keep tracking, try to get in my exercise as best I can, and nothing but water after 7! I CAN do this. I really want to be fit and as little as possible before my next half in August.

Knee Update and Freaking Out

Omg, omg, omg, omg! My FIRST HALF MARATHON is in a week and one day and I can't run right now! Needless to say I AM FREAKING OUT! Capitol letters freak out!

Since my bike crash last Friday, I've only run 3 miles, which was on Sunday. Since then it has hurt too much to run. So I've been using the elliptical and I'm taking today and tomorrow completely off to hopefully heal it. The bruising is getting better, it got pretty ugly, and the swelling is finally going down. I'm just praying that it's okay so that I can get a long run in on Saturday morning. Eeeep. My last good run was two weeks ago! I've barely run in two weeks!

Breathe, Alisha, breathe.

So I think at this point I'm not going to worry about any time goals and just concentrate on finishing. The course has a downhill trend, so I feel confident that I can do it, even if I have to walk. I would say that my other goal is to walk as little as possible. My training run this weekend will make or break my confidence I'm afraid for my race. I would like to do 11 miles, but it all depends on how I feel. Guess I'll just have to wait and see!

Fudge!
